A plan to transform a derelict piece of ground on the Bournville into a community garden has gone one step closer to reality. The Chocolate Garden idea came about when members of the Bournville Area Resident's Association went on a course to find out how to transform derelict spaces within their community. The group has carried out lots of consultation on the project and have found a lot of support for the idea. BARA completed an application to the Big Lottery Changing Spaces Fund for £50,000 earlier in the spring, to add to the £55,000 already fundraised.
The site is opposite Coniston Green Park, behind the shops on St Andrews Parade, and was formally a drying area for the flats on Lonsdale Avenue. The project is named the Chocolate Garden because of the links with Bournville and Cadbury. Continuing the theme the garden will feature artwork on the walls showing the history of chocolate and how it is made.
