Get Involved

We are always happy for people to get involved with the work of Neighbourhood Management in the South Ward area. We also want to know if you are involved in any groups within your local community that could benefit from our help with community engagement and funding etc.

Community Chest

Would you like £3000?
Community Chest grants of up to £3000 are available for small, local voluntary and community groups and organisations and you don’t need to be a registered charity.

Improving life in South Ward
Funding is awarded to support local initiatives that help reduce crime and the fear of crime, create cleaner and greener public spaces, improve the quality of life for local people, or encourage local residents to get involved in community activities.

How do I apply?
Applications are welcome at any time. You can apply online at the Quartet Community Foundation website www.quartetcf.org.uk/apply or call 01934 641 985 or 0117 989 7700 or email: Ronnie.brown@quartetcf.org.uk

Since the scheme was first set up, we’ve been able to help lots of local groups in South Ward including the Rising Stars Performing Arts groups, the Oldmixon DIY project, the Oldmixon Friendship Club, St Johns Football Club, Bournville Area Residents Association (BARA), residents of Rydal Road and parents of children who attend Windwhistle School for an after school club.

Resident meetings

The Neighbourhood Management Team have set up many meetings specifically aimed at local residents from South Ward. The meetings give people an opportunity to meet staff from local service providers, raise local issues and concerns, find out about proposals and projects in their area and get to meet people from the same area.

The following meetings are currently taking place:

The Coronation

A popular coffee morning takes place once a month for residents of the Coronation. The venue has changed from Shakespeare Court to room S113 at the new Weston College University Campus on Loxton Road.

Residents from the Coronation can talk to the police, their local Councillor and local service providers in a relaxed, informal and friendly environment. Although it is not a formal meeting, we do take actions away with us to try and sort out before the next meeting.

We get a good, regular, attendance but always have room for more people so come along to the next meeting and bring a friend! Tea, Coffee and cakes served with a smile!

Please contact Cindy on 01934 426 998 or 07920 082970 for more details.

The Oldmixon

Cindy Eigler, Community Development Worker, is available to chat to every Monday morning (10am – 12noon) at the Local Action Team (LAT) office on Aller Parade (next door to Chutneys). Cindy can help out with trying to sort out any local issues you may have or offer support and advice to local Community Groups.

Cindy can also be contacted on 01934 426 998 or 07920 082970

The Potteries

From the 29th November 2007, Community Workers, Cindy Eigler and Lisa Corkhill, will be based at the Potteries Community Centre on Langford Road every Thursday from 10am – 12noon.

Residents are welcome to come along and chat to them about any issues affecting you in your local area.

4 Youth

4 Youth is an exciting forum especially for 10 – 19 year olds living in the South Ward area.

Meetings take place monthly with the overall aim of giving young people in South Ward a voice to say what they would like to see in the area in a fun and rewarding environment.

If you would like any further information please contact Cindy on 01934 426 998 or Vicki on 01934 426 736.
