Play Rangers on Southward

The Play Rangers give children on South Ward the opportunity to use their own initiative with regards to play, giving the opportunity to explore and use imagination. They meet at various play areas throughout the week and offer equipment and assistance if required. They are not a child care service, therefore any child is free to come and go as they please.

Aims of the South Ward Play Ranger Project

Play rangers will:

  • Engage with the children and young people to identify the types of activities and resources they would like to access.
  • Raise the esteem and self worth of the children they are working with.
  • Engage with the local communities to maximise the use of the green and open spaces in the areas for opportunities to play.
  • Facilitate free play, this will be self directed by children and young people.
  • Identify future development aimed at the children and young people in the South Ward area.
