4 Youth Wildlife Project
Following on from their successful residential training weekend in November 2007, the core members of 4 Youth have commenced on their first project which is looking at Wildlife on the 4 Estates and how the environment can be enhanced for all creatures great and small!

With the help of the wildlife wardens and local biodiversity officer they looked at areas on the 4 estates where they could make a difference to the look and feel of the area while supporting wildlife. One idea was that they could plant hedgerows which as they grow will increase wildlife populations, but also will help cover up some of the vandalised and unattractive fences that run throughout the estates. 4 Youth are working/taking advantage of a grant from Western Power Distribution who are offering free hedge plants and BCTV are going to help them with planting the 700 odd plants to create the new hedgerows. They will be made up of native species.
Before planting the hedgerows 4 Youth are going to have a litter pick along the sites. They will also be making bird boxes with the Oldmixon DIY project to put in the trees along the rhynes to provide more nesting sites for native birds.
Winterstoke Road Pedestrian crossing
Another idea that 4 Youth are hoping to work on is to try to petition for a pedestrian crossing on Winterstoke Road. They are working closely with the South Ward Neighbourhood Management Partnership to see if this would be a possibility.
Projects aside, 4 Youth are also contributing to local regeneration plans by helping to design Jubilee Park and the local shopping developments.
