Jubilee Park Improvements

A turf cutting ceremony back in August 2008 marked the start of major work to Jubilee Park, which was been funded by the South Ward Neighbourhood Management Partnership

The park refurbishment was a major flagship project for the Partnership and improvements included 2 brand new play areas, one for toddlers and one for older children, a skate park and a dirt jump area for the local BMX riders. This particular skate park design is unique to the area and the first of its kind in the South West.

The dirt jump track has been developed and built by Phil Saxena, of Full Contact Racing. Phil designed the Beijing Olympic track and UCI World Championship tracks and when not travelling the world is campaigning and working on grassroots projects like this one.

The dirt jump track is split into 2 parts, a pump track at one end and a series of jumps at the other. The track has been laid with limestone to make sure it is as hard wearing as possible and will stand up to the wet conditions of the park.

Other improvements include refurbished boardwalks across the wetland areas of the park, additional paths created along the Bridgwater Road edge and stone pillars to mark the entranceways to the park.

The park is owned and maintained by North Somerset Council and local people are now able to have some input into how it is managed through the 'Friends of Jubilee Park'.

Jubilee Park’s wetland is unique in Britain forming a transition between the coast and the Somerset levels. The 'Friends group' work with North Somerset Council officers and Park Rangers to develop the full potential of the park.

The group has developed areas for planting, created habitats for local wildlife and arranged events in the park for the benefit of the local people.
