The Concrete Community are a group of skaters and BMX riders who get together to have fun, stay healthy and encourage participation in these sports from young people of all ages.
Recently the group has become involved with the South Ward Neighbourhood Management Partnership in the consultation and planning process for the new skate and BMX areas at Jubilee Park, Weston-super-Mare.
The group has made a successful application to North Somerset Council’s Youth Fund for £11,000 to add value to the park equipment, raising funding for railings to divide the extreme sports facilities, and increase the safety of the site.
The group have formed a management committee which includes the following people:
- Cai Dodds – Chair BMX riders
- Ben Smart – Chair Skater riders
- Jon MacKinnon – Secretary
- Ban Panting - Treasurer
They meet regularly with members of the South Ward Neighbourhood Management Team to explore funding opportunities. The group have designed their own logo and are in the process of developing their own website.
Concrete Community are helping to plan an opening ceremony for the skate and BMX plaza at Jubilee Park which is likely to take place during the Easter holidays.
